Service-Learning Students
Welcome Students!
Welcome to the Service-Learning Program at Chandler-Gilbert Community College! You are embarking on an exciting way of learning. You will find that your service-learning experiences will enrich your education and expand your knowledge of the community.
What exactly is Service-Learning?
Service-Learning is a blending of academic study and community service. Academic credit is given for actual learning that occurs when performing service to the community. Students can choose to be placed in one of many non-profit agencies, educational sites, and government offices. They are given assignments based on an academic learning plan and the specific needs of the agency with which they choose to work.
What is the difference between volunteerism, internships, and Service-Learning?
- Volunteering is a worthwhile activity, but it doesn't always connect to classroom instruction.
- Internships involve training but there may be little or no emphasis on service and the learning techniques are different.
- Service-Learning, however, combines volunteer work, internship and academic achievement into one endeavor.
By participation in service-learning you will experience the world beyond the classroom and it will open new doors of learning and bring learning to life.
