Estee Dahan-Henry - 2009 Student Speaker
Estee Dahan-Henry is a biology major who is graduating with an Associate in Applied Science degree and Associate in Arts degree from CGCC and will transfer to Arizona State University this fall.
The first in her family to graduate from both high school and college, Estee made the most of her college experience by getting involved in a variety of activities while attending CGCC. In addition to working full-time and going to school full-time, Estee served as the president of the International Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, during which time she volunteered her time with various Phi Theta Kappa functions such as the Phi Theta Kappa Recycling Program, the Sojourner Domestic Violence Shelter hygiene and pillow drives, and the book fair to benefit CGCC's Destination College program. In addition, Estee served on CGCC's Student Planning Board, and as an Into the Streets student leader and participant. She also participated in the Hunger Banquet, Poverty 101, and volunteered as a tutor for Improving Chandler Area Neighborhoods (ICAN).
In addition to being awarded the CGCC Honors and Foundation Scholarships, Estee was named to the 2009 All-Arizona Academic First Team, as well as receiving the national Coca-Cola Scholarship award.
Reflecting on her experience at CGCC, Estee said, "Attending community college has been the best decision I have ever made. The education I have obtained will undoubtedly help me to succeed on the university level and in all of my future endeavors."
