Grants

Grants are gift aid, which does not need to be repaid, from federal or state sources. They are awarded to students on the basis of need. The various grants available at CGCC are listed below.

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is awarded to undergraduate students who have not previously earned a bachelor's or professional degree. The size of the award is based on the students' Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and their enrollment status. Students are eligible for the maximum award, as determined by their EFC, if they are enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours per semester. Students enrolled in fewer than 12 credit hours will receive a prorated award. The Federal Pell Grant program is an entitlement program, which means if a student completes the financial aid process and is eligible for a Pell Grant they are entitled to that award. These funds are not limited.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is awarded to undergraduates who demonstrate exceptional financial need. At CGCC, eligible students must complete the FAFSA, have exceptional financial need, and qualify for a Federal Pell Grant. Funds are limited and awarded on a first come, first serve basis.  Students who have already earned a bachelor's degree are not eligible for FSEOG assistance.

Leveraging Education Assistance Partnership (LEAP) Grant

LEAP is a state grant program that provides financial assistance to students who have financial need. Federal funds are provided to match appropriated state funds supplied by the states on a dollar for dollar basis. At CGCC, eligible students must complete the FAFSA, be a resident of Arizona, and enroll at least half time (6-8 credit hours). Funds are limited and awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)

ACG is a need based grant awarded to freshmen and sophomore students who have completed a rigorous secondary school program, as designated by the state in which the student resided when completing the program. In addition, students must enroll full time and be awarded Federal Pell Grant funds. Sophomore students need to have a 3.0 cumulative GPA during their freshman year of college. The amount of ACG, in combination with Federal Pell Grant and other financial aid cannot exceed the students demonstrated financial need.
