MLK Basketball Classic Honoree
The Chandler-Gilbert Community College Athletic Deparment participated in the MLK Basketball Classic at Mesa Community College on January 19, 2013. The college awarded Faculty member, Diane Travers for her leadership and involvement in the community. Her accomplishments are listed below. Congratulations to Diane Travers!
Diane Travers is the Division Chair of Communication and Fine Arts and has been with the Maricopa Community Colleges for 28 years serving and educating thousands of diverse members of our communities.
As a Communication Faculty member, she requires her Interpersonal Communication and Public Speaking students to participate in service-learning at the Chandler-Gilbert ARC. It is important for students to both serve and learn how to communicate with a diverse group of individuals with developmental disabilities at the ARC.
In March of last year, Diane Travers was awarded the Maricopa Community Colleges' Diversity Advisory Council Award of Excellence in recognition of outstanding efforts on behalf of diversity and inclusion at the Maricopa Community Colleges.
Diane is the founding advisor for the HELP Service club which started 5 years ago. HELP stands for Hands Enriching Lives Projects. The students are from all over the world. - 5+ years service with the Chandler-Gilbert ARC Day Treatment Program for Adults with Developmental Disabilities - 3 years service with Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit homebuilder for low-income families.
