 Welcome Back To Chandler-Gilbert Community College

Welcome back to another great year at Chandler-Gilbert Community College! It’s exciting to feel the energy and vitality when all the students return. This fall, as we finish our twenty-year anniversary celebration, we continue to look forward to our future – “the next twenty years”. As part of our forward-looking activities, last spring we finalized a new college vision statement to guide our planning. This is an aspirational vision to empower, inspire, and strengthen our belief and actions.

 CGCC Gets Off to a Great Start With New Initiatives


Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) is poised for another strong academic year. Although the numbers are still coming in, more than 12,000 students are taking classes on all three campuses as they work to transform their lives.

Faculty and staff were re-energized at a pre-semester All-Employee Convocation where President Linda Lujan presented a new college vision emphasizing student success.

“Student success is at the heart of all of our work at Chandler-Gilbert Community College,” said President Lujan. “Through their success, we contribute to the regional economic vitality and build an engaged citizenry that strengthens our community.”

 Engineering Students Awarded National Science Foundation Scholarship


Over the summer, CGCC received a second four-year Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) scholarship grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This grant from the NSF for $587,000 will be used over the next four years.

For fall 2012 semester, the STEM scholarship committee received 71 applicants and awarded 27 students a total of $61,971 from the High-Tech Transfer Program Scholars (HTTPS) NSF Grant. Award amounts were based on need as determined by federal financial aid guidelines.

 CGCC Faculty Set to Infuse Democratic Thinking into the Classroom


Under the leadership of Paul Petrequin and Darien Ripple, six CGCC employees began participation in a Bridging Communities Grant this summer. The grant is co-sponsored by the American Association of Colleges & Universities, National Endowment of Humanities, and the Democracy Commitment.

 CGCC Named as a Finalist in Climate Leadership


CGCC was named as a finalist in the Second Nature Climate Leadership Awards, which recognizes Innovation and Excellence in Climate Leadership at Signatory Institutions of the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. CGCC was nominated for implementing operational, instructional, outreach, assessment, and research actions and activities. The Climate Leadership Awards highlight campus innovation and climate leadership to transition society to a clean, just, and sustainable future.
