If the fire alarm sounds:
- Leave work area / classroom following the evacuation procedures.
- Do not attempt to save possessions.
- Do not open the door if the door or knob is hot or if smoke is visible from the bottom of the door.
- Close all doors when leaving.
- Do not stay in a courtyard.
- Proceed to an assembly area at least 500 feet upwind from the building.
- Account for all personnel or students at the assembly area.
- Wait for the "all clear" notification from safety personnel.
When reporting a fire:
- Call 911 and report location of the fire.
- Call College Safety at 480-732-7280 (Pecos) or 480-988-8888 (Williams).
- Activate the fire alarm.
- Use fire extinguisher for small fires
- P | Pull
- A | Aim
- S | Squeeze
- S | Sweep
- Evacuate the work area / classroom for larger fires.
When caught in a smoke filled facility:
- Drop to knees and crawl towards the exit.
- Breathe through nose, filtered with shirt or jacket.
- Hold breath as much as possible.
- Stay close to the wall while exiting the facility.
When trapped in a room:
- Call 911 and Public Safety at 480-732-7280 (Pecos) or 480-988-8888 (Williams) with location.
- Close as many doors as possible.
- Place cloth under each door to block smoke.
- Signal location if possible.
- Open or break windows only as a last resort, if needed for escape.
When advancing through flames:
- Hold breath.
- Move quickly.
- Cover head and hair with blankets or cloth.
- Keep head down.
- Keep eyes closed as much as possible.
- "Stop, Drop and Roll" if clothes catch fire.
