CARDIOPULMONARY EMERGENCIES (CPR)
If you observe an unconscious person or a person exhibiting classic heart attack symptoms (severe centralized or radiating chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, etc.) observe the following procedures:
1. CALL
- Call 911 and notify Public Safety at 480-732-7280 (Pecos) or 480-988-8888 (Williams). Send for Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) unit.
2. CHECK
- Check the victim for breathing and for pulse.
- Breathing: Place your ear by the victim's mouth and nose; look, listen and feel for breathing.
- Pulse: Find groove in neck next to the Adam's apple; feel the pulse for 5-10 seconds.
3. CARE
- If there is no breathing or pulse, begin CPR or use AED, if available.
- Position both hands in the middle of breast bone (one hand on top of the other, interlocking fingers).
- Position shoulders over hands, keep elbow straight and compress chest 30 times to a depth of 2 inches with each compression.
- Give victim 2 slow breaths (lift chin, tilt head back, pinch nose shut and exhale 2 slow, full breaths).
- Repeat the cycle of 30 compressions to 2 breaths, 4 times.
- Recheck pulse about every one minute.
- If no pulse is evident, continue CPR until emergency help arrives or another trained person takes over.
