What to Consider Before Writing a Grant:

Which programs or disciplines are strong and growing?
Do you have any special initiatives, new programs, or opportunities that are promising? Are you in the process of making any major changes that may be enhanced with external funding?
Are there any significant demographic or target group increases that suggest the need for new programs?
Which faculty are particularly innovative, experts in their disciplines, and interested in new challenges and professional growth opportunities?
What partnerships have you developed or could you develop that could lead to additional funding opportunities?
Get approval from your department chair, appropriate dean (Dean of Instruction, Dean of Student Services, etc.), or supervisor before you begin the process of writing a grant.
