Grant Checklist
___ 1 . Identify Need Items to Consider.
___ 2 . Identify Sources for Funding. Identify potential sources of funding that meet strategic goals and meet the needs of your college and department (Funding Opportunities, Grants Alerts, Federal Register, content field publications, conferences, etc.).
___ 3 . Read the RFP/Application from cover to cover to be sure you understand everything that is involved.
___ 4 . Set an appointment to meet with CGCC Grants Director if planning on applying for grant (Be sure to follow any grants procedures established by the college, including seeking appropriate Supervisor or Vice President and President approval to write grant.)
___ 5 . Get Approval for Grant from supervisor or appropriate Vice President. Complete Proposal Approval Summary Form with Vice President/supervisor signature.
Submit completed and signed Proposal Approval Summary Form to Mary Graci for President's signature
___ 6 . Develop a timetable for the planning and preparation of grant. (Aim to be ready for signatures at least a week before the due date to allow yourself adequate time for the last minute things that always seem to go wrong. For large grant applications, try to have a reasonably good draft done at least two-three weeks before deadline.)
___ 7 . Request or collect data, resumes, letters of commitment/support and other pertinent information needed to plan, support, and write the grant.
___ 8 . Prepare grant, budget, and appropriate attachments or appendices.
___ 9 . Get feedback before finalizing! Ask colleagues, administrators, and the CGCC Grants Director to review the draft narrative and budget, and provide you with suggestions for improvement. Ask your college Financial Officer to review your proposed budget. Ask the CGCC Grants Director for technical assistance if you need it.
___ 10 . Finalize your proposal and attachments.
___ 11 . Submit completed finalized copy of proposal and cover letter to CGCC Grants Director for final review and Vice Chancellor approval.
___ 12 . Contact CGCC Grants Director for final submitting (mailing) the application (Pay close attention to what the grant says about the deadline. For grants that must be in the funding source's hands on the due date, it is advisable to Federal Express it with 24 hour delivery and return receipt requested 3 - 4 days in advance of the deadline. Even Federal Express packages do not always get to their destination when they are supposed to, so allow some extra time.).
___ 13 . Notify CGCC Grants Director if your proposal is awarded or not.
___ 14 . If proposal is not awarded, request Reviewer's Comments from funding source.
