Development Overview
Goal
Support the goals of the Maricopa Colleges Foundation to acquire supplemental financial support for Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) from corporations, individuals (including employees and alumni) and foundations.
Development
The purpose of development is to solicit private contributions to support college programs and students. Gifts may be cash, pledge or in-kind (including real property, equipment, volunteer time, tickets, books, etc.).Private individuals, corporations, foundations, employees, college alumni and foundation are sources of private gifts. All private contributions are considered development resources and are not from public funds.
CGCC's Development Office coordinates its activities with the Maricopa Colleges Foundation (Foundation ) to receive private contributions to further develop its private resources. The Foundation is the organization designated by IRS to receive and administer gifts from private sources on behalf of the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD). Documentation regarding the Foundation's IRS status, investment policies, audited financial records and revenues and expenses are available at the Foundation web site.
The Development Office provides the following information and services:
Charitable and Philanthropic Giving
Giving charitable or philanthropic gifts is an option of the donor. Private donors give to people and organizations they know. Most often these donors do not respond to unsolicited gift requests from strangers. Relationships and relationship-building is the key for acquiring private gifts.
Cultivation Support
The CGCC Development Office provides assistance to create a cultivation plan to build and strengthen prospect and donor relationships. Cultivation starts well in advance of the need Building strong relationships with local prospects usually takes months of development activity or years to build effective national prospect relationships. The CGCC Development Office will assist in the development of short and long-term cultivation plans to increase the possibility of funding.
Solicitation Support
The Development Office coordinates CGCC leadership with members of the Foundation not only for cultivation purposes, but to solicit or "ask" for the gift. Solicitation training, preparation and compilation of materials, including letters of inquiry and intent to proposals and support documentation services are provided through the Development Office.
Gift Management
When private gifts are awarded, the Foundation acts as the trustee to accept and manage gifts (at no charge) for CGCC and all colleges and centers of the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD). Gifts are made at once or in a pledge over a period of time. The Foundation's IRS 501 (c) ( 3 ) status makes it the only entity that can receive and administer private (charitable) gifts on behalf MCCCD, including CGCC.
Donor Relations
Stewardship activities, including the development of initial CGCC acknowledgement letters, identification of donor recognition activities, provision of donor gift reports and donor tracking are also a service of the CGCC Development Office.
Types of Gifts
Private gifts are not always cash, but include gifts of service and time (in-kind gifts) and real property (land, equipment vehicles, aircraft and other real property) that must be approved by the Foundation for acceptance and release to CGCC.
Services
When projects with appropriate college approvals meet CGCC strategic and fund raising goals, the CGCC Development Office will provide these services:
