Grants Frequently Asked Questions
What is the expectation of resources from the CGCC Grants Office?
CGCC Grants Office spends most of its time supporting big, public grants (NSF, DOE, etc.) and provides assistance on small grants.
What kinds of grants are there?
There are internal and external grants. External grants have two kinds of funding sources - public and private. An example of an internal grant is an MCLI grant. Examples of external grants are the Department of Education (public) and Intel (private).
What do YOU bring to the table?
You are the subject matter expert. The member(s) of your development team (Co-PI for example) who submits the grant will carry it out. For public grants, the federal government wants faculty who have won national awards to write the grant.
When do I start?
Set realistic expectations - last minute grants will not be accepted. Establish a time line and deadline - budget time for approval process and signatures. Notify CGCC Grants Office of a grant as soon as possible.
How does the process work?
Grants Office and/or you will initiate communication of grants to seek. Get approval from your supervisor, department chair or appropriate Dean before you begin writing the grant. Contact the CGCC Grants Office before you get approval.
