Items to Consider Before Development Activities Begin:
- The CGCC Development Office is the link to the Maricopa Colleges Foundation, the only entity that is legally designated to seek and accept private contributions for CGCC or any of the colleges in the District.
- Individuals serving as members of the Maricopa Colleges Foundation board are volunteers who are involved in the private fund raising process forming teams with college representatives to seek major gifts.
- Consult with the President, Dean or Department chair to ensure that your need corresponds with the established funding priorities of the college.
- Contact the CGCC Development Office for: clearance and approval to seek support from any prospect; proposal development and providing official documents to include tax statements, tax identification numbers, independent audits, annual reports, acknowledgements and all official and legal support documents required to accept and receive private gifts.
- Plan ahead since private awards are often made one time a year and clearance to approach the prospect must be done in advance.
- Individuals who seek private support without coordination with the Development Office may: interfere with a gift already in progress and will be unable to provide documents required for charitable gifts since these are only in the possession of the Maricopa Colleges Foundation.
