Engel Hall at Williams
Engel Hall includes specialized labs for Nursing and Life Sciences, general classrooms, lecture classrooms, faculty offices and support spaces. This building is the first new construction at the Williams Campus. As such, it was positioned to begin the creation of a campus core that will be developed in the coming years. This building sets the standard for architectural detailing to be included in future buildings on the Williams Campus. The building is designed so that it can be “mirrored” to the southeast in the future, creating additional space for science labs and general classrooms.
The namesake of Engel Hall is Major Connie Ricks Engel, US Air Force Reserve, retired. Connie's parents were married in the original Williams Field chapel. Connie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BSN degree and worked a short time as a civilian nurse before joining the Air Force as a nurse at Williams. Chosen for the first UPT class to include women, she served as her class commander and went on to be the first woman to solo the T-37 “Tweet.” She was selected for the “Commander’s Trophy” upon graduation from pilot training and was then assigned duty as an instructor pilot in the T-38 at Williams.
Included in the Engel Hall project was a new Central Plant for the north campus and nearly 300 additional parking spaces.
