CHANDLER-GILBERT COMMUNITY COLLEGE EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT TEAM April 10, 2006 2:30 4:00 pm, B111 Present: Brent Bartel, Sherri Basha, Sandi Lien, Margie Mesanko Spring Picnic-Margie contacted Oriental Trading to obtain prices and shipping standards. She submitted quotes for both Aramark (barbeque pork & barbeque chicken) as well as the quote received from Oriental Trading. Tom Nicol obtained the volleyball supplies which are currently in Margies office. He has donated a total of $46.00 worth of supplies. Sandi will check on exterior speakers for the event. Last years grocery list was reviewed to obtain a foundational list for this year. In discussing beverage selection, it was determined that cans of punch are more convenient and would eliminate the cost of cups, drink umbrellas, punch servers, punch bowl and ladle. There is limited employee availability for this event due to other conflicting events that cannot be rescheduled. One in particular, the Relay for Life event is being held at the Williams Campus and we will have several employees participating in the event. In assessing the potential low attendance, it was agreed to cancel the spring luau and hold a fall festival on October 20, 2006. This was approved by the president. Sandi will reserve the campus areas to ensure an early reservation. MOSIAC-Maximizing Our Strengths as an Inclusive Community-The first phase of the program will be introduced at CGCC via Summer Institute (for faculty) on 5/22; 5/23; 5/24; 5/25. There are also four Thursday mornings (8a-12p) in June that have been ear-marked to hold Level I and II sessions at CGCC to support the attendance of the other employee groups. Level III will then be introduced in the fall. Possibly hold one 4-hour session on a Friday in September for Session IIIa and one 4 hour session on a Friday in October for IIIb. Memorial-Similar to standardizing retirement recognition, EDT has been asked to consider a process that would be appropriate to recognize a CGCC employee who has passed away. Some points to consider would be, What would be appropriate recognition for someone? How long would a person need to be employed at CGCC to receive some sort of honor? Any permanent marker or fixture would need to be presented and approved by the governing board. Something related to landscape such as a tree of life or a brick pathway is not considered permanent and would not require board approval. Some ideas that have been discussed is a wall in the Rotunda, or a pathway between A & B which leads into education or perhaps a bench or sitting area with a wall located in the area by C110 and the Art department. Kate OMara, Ted Wolter, and others have been discussing considerations. It is recommended that our suggestions be taken to the comprehensive facilities planning committee which meets in the very near future.
