The Environmental Technology Center community garden is a vital component of a larger sustainability project slated for the north end of CGCC's Pecos Campus, which will feature an Environmental Technology Center (ETC) - a low-impact and cost-efficient living classroom that will serve as a hub for environmental education and resources for CGCC students, local schools, non-profit programs, and community members.
The garden will serve as a collaborative outdoor learning lab in which students, employees, and community members will work together towards a shared vision of sustainability.
Environmental Education
CGCC faculty across many disciplines will incorporate the ETC community garden into their curriculum, focusing on areas such as environmental biology, ecology, geology, rainwater harvesting, plants and medicine, and more.
K-12 & Community Outreach
The ETC community garden will also be utilized for K-12 outreach and service learning projects with local community agencies, educating youth about issues of sustainability, companion planting, plant structure, watering approaches, and composting. K-12 students will also have the opportunity to plant and work in the garden, learning how to grow food and why it is beneficial to their health, the earth, and our local community.
