Gila River Review

INK

I’m feelin’ creative       gonna get my pen and paper

I’m talkin’ bout’ my favorite pen with the tiny black tip     It fills the wood grain and it won’t drip

My words never run together     They just lay on the page like fuzz on a feather

The sentences are happy to be forming a thought       The question mark is asking just to have a dot?

The q’s like to curl and the o’s like to whirl around and around but they never fall down

And I’m happy listening to the sound of ink sinking into paper

Happy listening to the sound of thoughts going deeper

Happy listening to the sound of ink sink

Each time that I lay my pen down to go to the sink or stop to think

this slice of tree I see before me is like a lady in waiting for her next ink drink

The dangling participles hang around waiting on a verb or a proper noun

The commas interrupt    The T hits a peak

Every letter unique as the page starts to speak

And I’m happy listening to the sound of ink sinking into paper

Happy listening to the sound of thoughts going deeper

Happy listening to the sound of ink sink
