Mother, holding your hands
I discover familiar shapes in your
bulging, blue veins.
In the mountains, valleys, and gullies
of the skin
I see hands
of a lover,
and a giver.
The peaks of the fingers are rough and ragged
like withered wood.
Subtle, immovable lines are carved
into the bark.
The five darling branches you have
are deeply rooted in your veins.
