Print/Imaging green initiative FAQ:
Purpose: Implement efficiencies in network printing and imaging equipment to achieve 30 percent savings in annual costs associated with energy consumption, paper utilization, and device consolidation
Why are we reducing the number of printers and copiers?
With the recent upgrade of Ricoh copiers, printers and copiers now provide the same function (print, copy, fax, scan) and we are replicating equipment and increasing our costs by having both copiers and printers in the same space.
What if equipment is removed through this consolidation effort?
In most cases single function devices like fax machines and color printers are now available on multifunctional devices from Ricoh or HP, no reduced capabilities will occur if equipment is removed.
Will the steps for printing to the new multifunctional units be different?
Generally no, the same printer names will be used so it should be a matter of locating your print, fax, and/or copy on a single device instead of separate units. The exception to this will be in cases where a previous printer no longer exists and a new name had to be created, so selecting a new name may be required
Will any settings on my computer have to be changed to print to the new device?
The expectation are changes on Windows computers will occur automatically, but Macintosh users may have to take extra steps to delete and recreate printer setup to ensure all print settings are working properly.
What are some of the cost savings benefits related to this project?
- Reduced power due to more energy efficient equipment
- Power management features for scheduled shutdown and reduced energy consumption during idle usage period
- Reduced supplies due to the duplex printing capabilities
- Reduced maintenance costs by replacing older equipment
