Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will I have to switch to the new curriculum when I enroll in Fulton?

It is not necessary to change to the new curriculum. If you maintain continuous enrollment at any public Arizona community college or university you may graduate according to the requirements of the catalog in effect at the time of initial enrollment or according the requirements of any single catalog in effect during subsequent terms of continuous enrollment (page 88 2005/2006 ASU Catalog). So for example, if you started at South Mountain Community College in the fall 2001 semester and have maintained continuous enrollment up to now you have the option of graduating under any catalog (i.e., check sheet) from 2001 until the most current one.

2. Should I change to the new curriculum?

It may be to your advantage as the new program has been updated to meet industry needs and national trends plus it requires fewer hours.

3. Will the courses I have already taken from an old check sheet count in the new program?

For the most part, if you have been following an old check sheet, as long as you do not change your intended major most of the courses on the old check sheet will fulfill some requirement on the new check sheet. For the most thorough assessment, check with a Fulton department advisor.

4. When should I transfer to Fulton?

If you are a full time student you should complete as much of the preprofessional curriculum as you can at the community college and transfer to Fulton when you need Fulton specific courses to give you a full semester. Ideally you should apply to ASU and Fulton a year in advance of your planned attendance. It would be wise to meet with a Fulton advisor well in advance of the start of your first ASU semester.

5. How can I get in touch with an advisor at Fulton?

A list of advisors can be found at http://www.fulton.asu.edu/fulton/students/sas/academicadvisement.php or in the following table. It is best to make an appointment.

6. How can I find out what community college course is equivalent to an ASU course?

The Course Applicability System (CAS) can be used to determine the equivalency between community college courses and courses at ASU (and UofA and NAU). The CAS URL is http://az.transfer.org/cas/students/index.html. You will want to access the Course Equivalency Guide in the Quick Links box on the left hand side. This will bring you to a page where you can select a community college (or university) and then a prefix and find equivalencies for courses with the selected prefix. If you want a more specific search you can select Search All CEGs at the bottom of the page.

Note: If you create an account on CAS you can enter the courses you have taken and see how they can be used in any of the Fulton (or ASU) programs.
