AMT Required Tool List 

 

Required Tools and Equipment

The following items must be secured by the student from the manufacturer of his/her choice by the second week of class and must be equal in quality to professional tools usually found in the Aviation Maintenance field.

Tool Requirements

Tool Box: 22" X 10" X 14" maximum. Simple, small hand boxes or tool bags. A cantilever type tool box is recommended.

1/4" Drive Socket Set to include:

1 Socket Set, 12 pt. standard 3/16" through 1/2"

1 Socket Set, 12 pt. deep 3/16" to 1/2"

1 Ratchet, Reversible

3 Extensions 1 1/2", 3" and 6"

1 Spinner Handle, 6"

1 Universal Joint 1/4", drive

3/8" Drive Socket Set to include:

3 Extension 1 1/2",3" and 6"

1 Socket Set, 12 pt. deep, 3/8" through 3/4"

1 Socket Set, 12 pt. standard 3/8" to 3/4"

1 Ratchet 3/8" drive

1 Universal Joint 3/8 drive

1 Adapter 3/8" drive to 1/2" socket

1 Socket 1/2" drive 6 pt. deep 7/8" (Note: must be deep broached)

1 Hex Key Set 1/16" through 5/16" (14 pieces)

1 Ignition Wrench Set Combination 5/32~ through 7/16" (10 piece)

1 Combination Wrench set, 12 point, 1/4" through 1" (Recommend through 1 1/4")

1 Wrench set 3/8" through 7/8" (Recommend 1/4 through 1 1/4")

Note: The second set can be open‑end, box‑end, angle head, or combination-angle head recommended

1 Duckbill pliers 8"

1 Diagonal cutting pliers 6"

1 Locking (vise grip) pliers 7 1/2"

1 Steel Rule, 6 " flexible, 1 / 64 and 1 / 32 graduations on one side, decimal on the other

1 Square, Combination

1 Plastic Protractor, 6"

1 Pencil Compass

3 Metal Snips, Aircraft, Left, Straight, Right Cut; (or Left and Right Offset Snips)

1 Inspection Mirror /a\ 2 1/4"

1 Hearing Protection (ear muff style)

1 File, 10" flat Mill - Single Cut - Bastard

1 File 10" Half Round - Double Cut - Bastard

1 Hacksaw (Adjustable - Flush Cutting)

2 Hacksaw Blades 12" (32 and 24TPI)

 

Additional Tool Requirements

On to the first day of class in the semester in which the student enrolls for AMT 126, the student must have an electronics tool kit with the following items.

Wire Stripper (Snap On or equivalent)

Electricians diagonal wire cutters

Small standard screwdriver

Small Phillips screwdriver

One roll 60/40 resin core solder

25 to 40 watt soldering iron

One household sponge

The items listed above are typical items that may be purchased from any electrical or electronic equipment store. It is possible to acquire most of the items in a kit.

Academic Supplies Required

All students are required to have in their possession the following items during all classes.

Calculator with trigonometric functions

I Adapter 1/4" drive to 3/8" socket

1 Center Head for Combination Square

1 Dial Caliper, 6"

1 Extension, 12", 1/4" drive

1 Magnetic Tip Screwdriver

1 Micrometer, 0-1"

1 Protractor Head for Combination Square

1 Safety wire twisters

1 Set of 1/4" drive universal joint 12 pt. sockets, 1/4" to 1/2"

1 Water Pump Pliers, 10"

 

Note: Snap-on, Proto, Mac, Matco and Craftsman all sell tool kits which they call basic aircraft mechanic's sets; most contain the tools on this list and more. All those sets are good starting points to build your tool set for your career.
