How to Apply

The CGCC Veterans Services Office is the liaison between you, the veteran or dependent of a veteran, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. The office will provide you with the necessary paperwork to apply for your educational benefits. Below are the steps you will need to take to start this process.

Download the Veterans Enrollment Success Pocket Guide, a checklist for new students.

Step 1

New students: Apply with the VA for your GI Bill benefits if you have not done so already. Click on "Apply for Benefits" here.

Step 2

New students: Follow all the normal steps for applying to and enrolling at CGCC, which can be found here.

Step 3

New students: Meet with a CGCC academic advisor to determine your program of study and select your classes within this program of study. Be certain to obtain a copy of this program of study checklist from your advisor.

Make sure you also sign up for New Student Orientation, which is required for all new-to-college students.

Continuing students only: Advising is strongly recommended, but if you do not desire academic advising, you may enroll in classes and submit forms directly to Veterans Services. We will verify that your classes apply to your program of study, as required by VA.

Step 4

All students: Complete and submit necessary paperwork to the CGCC Veterans Services Office after you are finished registering for classes. Select the appropriate chapter below to determine what you will need to submit.

(You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to open our forms. This software is free and can be downloaded from the Adobe website.)

You will need to submit a new Pay Request form each semester after you are enrolled in your classes.

Step 5

Pay for your classes at the CGCC Fiscal Office by the payment due date you have been issued. If you are unable to pay by the due date, please contact our office. Students using GI Bill benefits may be eligible for a tuition deferment, but it is not processed automatically: the Request for Tuition Deferment form is required.

Step 6

If your enrollment status changes, it is your responsibility to notify the CGCC Veterans Services Office of this change in status. If you do not contact our office in a timely manner, it could increase your overpayment of benefits.
