Underage Student Program

The Underage Student Program (UAS) was developed to address the needs of a growing population of college students who are between 12-15 years of age. These students may be home-schooled or come from our feeder junior high and high schools. Our goal is to insure their educational experience at Chandler-Gilbert Community College is a positive and successful experience by providing support services.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects underage students enrolled at the college. Parents DO NOT have the right to access students educational records without written consent from the student.  More information on FERPA is available on our district website.
General Information
  • Prospective students are screened by the Underage Student Advisor to determine level of maturity, educational preparation, and motivation to go to college.
  • Prospective students must complete the ASSET (English, Math, and Reading) test and a personal interview at least two weeks prior to classes starting.
  • Student must place at college level English and reading to take courses 100 level or above and into Introduction to Algebra on the math portion of the ASSET test.
  • Prospective students are encouraged to register early.
  • Student is expected to conduct his/herself as an adult college student in and out of the classroom.
  • Courses are conducted with adult content and it is the responsibility of the parent/student to determined appropriateness of the course.
  • Course content information is available upon request or upon referral to the instructor.
  • Students can also obtain Course Outlines & Competencies via the web.  
Student Responsibilities
  • Must attend New Underage Student Orientation the first semester enrolled.
  • Required to complete a mid-semester and end of semester grade check.
  • Must meet with the UAS advisor every semester
  • Must follow rules and regulations of the college as noted in the college catalog.

Faculty Information

  • Will be notified via e-mail of the student's enrollment.
  • If faculty is not assigned at the time of registration, the Department Chair will be notified of student's enrollment.
  • Will be requested to complete and submit a mid-semester and end of the semester grade check to the UAS advisor in the Advisement Center.
