Oral History of Marcos Ramos
CGCC Education student, Esmeralda Mota, interviewed her father, Marcos Ramos, about his experiences as a Bracero Worker fall 2011. Mr. Ramos participated in the Bracero Worker Program from 1960-1964. He remembers the difficult experience of being processed at the border and living in crowded, sparse accommodations in California, where he picked tomatoes and oranges. Although his parents missed him in Mexico, they grew to appreciate the money he sent home each month. Mr. Ramos explains the best part of the program was "the opportunity to work and make money for my family."
