Getting Started with eLearning at CGCC

Once you’ve decided that eLearning is a good fit for you, you will want to take a look at the computer requirements, take the online eLearning orientation that will teach you how to use the LMS Canvas, and use student support services available from the college. 
Always Make sure to monitor your Maricopa Student Center (http://my.maricopa.edu ) for notifications and updates.

(1)Technology check: Make sure you meet the current device and technology requirements to use the LMS.  
 
NOTE: If you use a browser that is not approved, you may still be able to access your course, but it could potentially fail during an assignment, test, quiz, or group project.
 
(2)Complete the eLearning Orientation: The eLearning orientation consists of
a)an Equiz: a self quiz to determine whether online may work or not work for 
   your learning style;
b)a very very brief 'show me how' orientation course on using the LMS, 
   Canvas, including videos;
c)orientation Completion form: form to print out or cut and paste and email to
    your instructor as proof of having taken the eLearning orientation

Many instructors require completing orientation before (but no later than first week of) classes.
If you have already completed the orientation during a previous semester, still fill out the completion form every semester.

Even very experienced eLearning students should still do the orientation course if they have never before used the LMS,  Canvas.  

(3)Student Support Resources:  Online and hybrid students have access to the same college-wide support resources available to face-to-face students, including financial aid, tutoring, and the library, among many others.
