A placement exam score is one determining factor in proper placement into a course. The placement exam doesn't guarantee success in the course, yet it is an indicator of the currently skill level for you. Other factors that you and your advisor may discuss, but not limited to, are: living situations, personal goals, work obligations, etc. When deciding on an appropriate math course, consider your placement score along with other varying factors.
